Fill Out a Survey and Enter to Win

By Therese Porod

Freshman and senior students of Benedictine University are encouraged to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and enter in a raffle to win either a $500 cash prize or an iPad, according to Thomas Wangler, Professor of Mathematics and Assistant to the Provost for Academic Assessment.

“There are good practices for the undergraduate program. The survey helps us to see how well we are aligned with these good practices. This lets us know what we need to change or adjust,” said Wangler.

Students can check their BenU email for the survey. The survey was opened to students on February 12th and will continue to be open until the semester ends. Reminders will continually be sent out to students’ BenU email, explained Wangler.

Anyone who takes the survey will be entered into a raffle for a cash prize of $500 or an iPad. The survey takes only about 15 minutes, said Wangler.

There are currently 621 colleges and universities that are participating in the NSSE survey for the year 2013. Since 2000, approximately 3.7 million students have participated in the NSSE throughout the U.S. and Canada, according to the NSSE 2013 College Student Report.

According to Wangler, the reason that only freshmen and seniors take this survey is to compare how much time is spent on studies and how it changes over a four-year period.

“Students get this survey because Benedictine cares, changes will be made, and their voices matter,” explained Wangler.
