Dangerous vs safe dieting

For centuries, people have tried to look their best, and most often that includes keeping a fit figure. In order to maintain this ideal body image, some often starve themselves, especially before special occasions.

For example, the day of marriage used to include worries about hair, makeup and dress style. Nowadays girls use extreme diets in order to achieve the most optimal body shape.

A new diet has been brought to attention in which brides to-be go on an extreme diet by in taking only 800 calories a day via a nose feed. The diet, called K-E, has been used for years in Spain and Italy, but is relatively new in the U.S. The feeding tube runs from the nose down the esophagus into the stomach and provides the body with lipids and proteins. By depriving the body of essential carbohydrates, the body goes into a state of shock called ketosis. In this condition, the body begins to burn fat instead of carbohydrates and thus leading to a slimmer figure.

Another new diet utilizes human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), a pregnancy hormone which is injected daily to induce rapid weight loss. Despite the fact that FDA has banned it’s over the counter availability and claimed its association with weight loss fraudulent, some clinics are still offering their patients this option to complement their plans. While on this plan, the patient injects themselves with the hormone and meets with a registered nurse weekly.

Of course, if someone goes from 3,000 calories a day to just 800, the body will respond by shedding weight. But of course, this is not without side effects. For example, you may experience frequent swings in moods, shedding of hair, dehydrated skin and other adverse health effects. In fact, doctors warn that crash diets as mentioned above can result in serious damage to kidneys, brain, vitamin deficiency and weakness. Furthermore, crash diets like the ones mentioned above may induce serious side effects and ultimately, all the lost weight is regained after the diet.

However, having a healthy diet and exercising are essential to having optimal health. Instead of turning to such extreme diet plan, just eat healthy and have 3-5 sessions a week of 45 minute cardio work out. Although this approach may not show rapid results, it will be a safe path to losing weight and achieving the body of your dreams.

Also, to prevent gaining too much weight at once, one should not eat to stuff themselves. It is better to eat until you feel full, but not stuffed. Do not eat unnecessarily; only eat when you are actually hungry. Regardless to say, avoid eating fatty food which will increase fat percentage of your body.

When in doubt, consult with your doctor for advice.
