Who would have thought that a trip out to the deserts of Arizona and hanging out with Native Americans is the way to form a band? Clearly, Cobra Starship’s roots are far from ordinary and their music is nothing less.

The band consists of Gabe Saporta (Cobra Starship founder and lead vocalist), Ryland Blackinton (guitarist), Victoria Asher (keytarist), Nate Novarro (drummer) and Alex Suarez (bassist). In 2003, Cobra Starship was formed in New York City and the group has gone on to release four albums: While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets, ¡Viva La Cobra!, Hot Mess and Night Shades. According to, they are known as a band that doesn’t like to take things seriously; they carry this feeling over to most of their albums. In turn, Cobra Starship’s music makes people want to dance and not take life so seriously. They have been associated with acts such as Bruno Mars, B.o.B., Leighton Meester and Gym Class Heroes.

Their most recent album, Night Shades, was released May 10, 2011. It features the song “You Make Me Feel…” that was recorded with Sabi. This album debuted number 50 on the Billboard 200 at its release, but shortly after a pre-show performance at MTV’s 2011 Video Music Awards, the single “You Make Me Feel…” took on number seven. Their future plans consist of supporting Justin Beiber on his South American tour and performing again at a pre-show for the MTV VMAs.

Cobra Starship will be performing at BenBash 2012, so be sure to drop in, rock out to some good music and hang out with friends! Doors open Saturday, April 28 at 8 p.m. in the Dan and Ada Rice Center. 103.5 Kiss FM will host a pre-party beginning at 5 p.m.
