Spring Style: loafer shoes

Most people tend to overlook the most important aspect of an outfit: the shoes. Since it is not cold outside anymore, we can’t run to our favorite pair of boots. There are plenty of styles out there that are comfortable for everyday wear, and one of them happens to be the loafer.

Up until recently, this style was looked upon as outdated and ancient. However, many designers have updated the look and now its a fashionable alternative to the simple ballet flat. There are two types, the oxford and the smoking shoe. The men’s shoe is obviously a little more masculine, with the wing tip or tassels on it. The smoking shoe is similar to a ballet flat, just more coverage.

The objective is to show off the shoe, so bottoms that allow the shoe to be seen are ideal. Dresses, skirts, and shorts are also other options with these shoes. For shorts, stray away from short shorts and look for newsboy/paper bag style. More romantic and feminine dresses will help juxtapose the masculinity of the loafers and play with the rules.

Since these are every day shoes, a casual look is preferred; skinnies with a loose and easy top is the best bet. These shoes can also be paired with  an oversized button-up and either leggings or skinny jeans. These are low maintenance shoes so make sure the outfit is as well. There’s no use in spending extra time to make it look trendy, because the shoe itself is trendy enough.
