Fitness apps to the rescue

I can bet anything that at this very second, your cell phone is within a two ft radius from where you are. I know because I’m like that, you’re like that, and were all like that. We can’t go anywhere without our phones.

Cell phones serve a great purpose for us. They can replace our digital cameras, our planners, our mp3 players, our GPS and keep us connected to news, weather, sports and friends. In just one little device, we have access to so much! So considering its immediate access, and its functionalities, it’s quite obvious that these little devices can do wonders for our health and fitness too. That’s right! So put the ‘Words With Friends’, ‘Draw Something’ and ‘Temple Run’ apps to the side, because I have some Apps that are worth downloading.

If you can make one small change to your health to start seeing immediate results, it should be in your nutrition. Fueling your body with the proper nutrients is about 80% of losing weight and feeling fit.

Just like your car runs better on Premium gasoline, your body will run better for you if you treat it properly from the inside. I’ve found a great App to help with your eating habits. It’s called ‘Fooducate’. What this app allows you to do is use your phones camera to scan barcodes of products before you purchase them. The app then displays information that helps you analyze if that product is worth buying based on its excessive sugar, trans fats, additives, preservatives, and more! The product will be assigned a letter grade based on the nutritional information. The Fooducate app also allows you to browse products, view and write comments on products, and find alternative options. Overall, it’s a great app to have on hand.

If you’ve read any of my previous articles, you know that I believe there is NO excuse for not working out. If you don’t have a gym membership, don’t know a personal trainer, or don’t have an at-home workout DVD series, I have an app that you can use. The ‘Nike Training Club” app is one of the newer ones that I’m obsessed with! It gives you more than 85 custom built workouts to follow. This free app includes 30 and 45 minute workouts based on your goals. Options include get lean, get toned, get strong, and get focused. You are also able to choose your level: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

If you don’t know how to do a specific exercise, don’t worry, every move has an accompanying video to show you the proper form and technique. Just set the audio to play from the music on your phone, and viola, all you do is follow. If you become tired, don’t worry, the random motivation and reminders help keep your energy up.

Now whip out your phone if it’s not already in the palm of your hand, and download Fooducate and Nike Training Club. You’ll start loving your phone even more!
