With a week until the Northern Athletic Conference Championships for indoor, the Benedictine men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Margaret Bradley Invitational at the University of Chicago. The men’s squad placed fourth, while the women placed eighth.

“The meet went well. We placed in a lot of events,” explained senior Nick McCord; who placed second in the long jump and fifth in the 55m dash. “This meet was mainly about fine tuning some things before next week [conference].”

Another standout performance came from Adam Chocola, as the junior broke a school record in the men’s weight throw with 10 points and a 16.30 m throw and placing first overall in that event. Also, sophomore Michael Addison placed second in the pole vault competition.

The women picked up where the men left off by placing in many events and racking up points. Senior Megan Kunesh placed fourth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.45. Also, Kunesh  tied for sixth in the high jump with another BenU team member, freshman Dominique Joseph.

More standout preformances from the women’s team came from sophomore Shana Cook and freshman Nicole Millard. Cook placed seventh in the weight throw and eighth in shot put, while Millard placed fifth overall in the women’s 55m dash.

With the conference championships coming up, the Eagles track and field teams continue to fight the injury bug, but it doesn’t seem to be a big issue to McCord.

“We are getting healthier and should hopefully have everyone back for our conference week,” McCord said.

The Eagles will compete at Rockford College for the NAC indoor title. The meet is at 11 a.m on Saturday.
