Virtual Career Fair helps connect students and employers

Illinois Small College Placement Association (ISCPA) is sponsoring the Virtual Career Fair on Feb. 21 and 22.    ISCPA is providing students and alumni with a chance to meet with recruiters online and explore various full-and-part time jobs, internships and volunteer opportunities.

“The concept behind the Virtual Career Fair is that it is an efficient and easy way to connect with employers online about future job openings,” said Gayle Oliver-Plath, Career Eco founder.

ISCPA was created by 25 colleges and universities to connect students and employers.  Some of these employers include the University of Illinois Springfield-Graduate Intern Programs, Aerotek, McMaster Carr, Effner Financial Group with Northwestern Mutual and many more.

The employers will have the chance to look over the resumes in advance and they will also be able to set up interview.  Even though these interviews will be conducted online, students still need to be prepared for them professionally.

Online chat rooms are a way to help the jobseekers interact with their employers and learn more deeply about the jobs and companies they are interested in.

“The chat sessions help eliminate the barriers of travels for both employers and job seekers across multiple campuses,” added Oliver-Plath.

“By making this career fair virtual, ISCPA is reaching out to a lot more students all around the United States.  This will also give Benedictine students who are studying abroad and students in other areas of U.S. a fair opportunity to participate as the other students on campus,” explained Lynne Avenson, Career Development coordinator.

Those students and alumni who are interested in participating in the Career Fair should upload their resumes at  Once you have uploaded the resume, the career development center at Benedictine University will take about 1-3 business days to approve your resume.

Once the resumes are approved, people will be able to apply for jobs and internships.

Students and alumni who will take the time to upload their resumes and participate will be entered in an iPod Nano drawing.   The Virtual Career Fair is beneficial especially in saving time and exploring several jobs.
