The Benedictine University men’s and women’s track and field team competed at the Illinois Wesleyan University Keck Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Both sides finished the weekend with momentum in their favor.

For the men, junior Robert Miller finished the invitational with times of 24.17 and 53.82 in the 200m and 400m dash events, while junior Ryan Serafino ran the 800m run in a time of 2:01.67. Sophomore David Martin finished the 1-mile run in 4:41.55.

Also, freshman Billy Sipek placed 5th in the high jump with a best of 1.85m. Senior Nicholas McCord competed in the long jump event and had a best of 6.36m. Junior Adam Chocola had a 14.27m throw in the shot put and a 15.42m weight throw, and sophomore Michael Addison contributed at the invitational by reaching 3.95m in the pole vault.

The woman’s BenU track and field team had several standout performances as well, especially by their newcomers. Freshman Julie Carroll finished the 3000m run with a time of 11:27.73, while freshman Casimir Bailey had a best 4.61m in the long jump. Nicole Millard ran the 200m dash in 28.76. Also, sophomore Shana Cook had a best of 9.86m in the shot put while freshman, Chloe Hamilton had a 9.65m throw.

“It was a good meet overall for us,” said McCord. “Our main focus was to show improvement and get out there and compete. There was excellent competition out there for us, so we just had to go out and compete hard.”

Both the men’s and women’s track and field team is back competing Saturday February 11 when they travel down the road to neighboring North Central College for the Chicagoland Championships meet.
