Students and alumni of Benedictine University will have the opportunity to come together and discuss different careers and job opportunities at the next Coffee House networking event sponsored by Career Development. The event will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Krasa Center C.
This month’s series will feature an employer of Zurich North America, a provider of insurance-based financial services.
“The goal of these Coffee House events will be to increase networking opportunities for both students and alumni,” said Sherri Smith, Career Development coordinator of Benedictine University. Since 2011, the networking events have given Benedictine students the opportunity to explore career options with alumni.
Smith explained that, “employers are asked to speak about their organization and the employment opportunities they have available, the organization’s hiring and application process and how they use their social media to find qualifies candidates.”
The networking events also create bonds between alumni and students.
“These events sound like a great way for students to learn more about what they are studying and aspiring to be. They can find out a lot more about future jobs from people who were once in their shoes,” said sophomore Haley Fitzgerald.
“This is a great way for students to interact with our alumni. These events can help benefit student by gaining knowledge about their future interests,” added freshman Meghan Novak.
Fitzgerald continued to explain, “I would definitely attend one of these workshops especially if someone from my education field was there, so I could ask questions. I would also be able to get a feel for what more I need to do during school to make myself more appealing in the business world.”
The Career Development and Alumni Relations host the Coffee House Networking event each month. Next month, the event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 23. This time it will be targeted towards Science and Health majors because the employer who will be speaking is from Resurrection Health Care.
