The things that we hate most are actually the things that are best for us.  We all hate the healthy route because it is definitely a challenge to keep up with it.  There are endless amount of ways to lose weight and stay healthy.  Did you know that 1 pound of fat is equivalent to 3500 calories?

This basically means that if you were to burn 3500 calories more, then you would be losing a pound if not more.  Calorie counting is a great start to managing your caloric intake of food.  This means reducing your intake, and burning off calories.  Here are some tips that I suggest will definitely get you on the right track to shedding that unwanted fat!

When they say eat smaller portions, they really do mean it.  Decreasing portions doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your favorite foods; it just means you need to manage your portion size.  For example, eating ½ a plate of carbohydrates, and ¼ protein and ¼ vegetables is the wrong choice.  Instead, ½ your plate should be vegetables, ¼ protein and the other ¼ should be carbohydrates.

Fiber is the key ingredient in every individual’s diet.  Whether you are trying to lose weight or not, eating fiber is a must!  Fiber has an endless amount of influence on the digestion process.  For starters, it gives the feeling of being full.  The feeling of satiation from fiber is great for weight lose because of the benefits we receive from fiber in our diet.  Since fiber slows down the process of digestion, it allows glucose levels in the body to stay even because glucose from foods enters the bloodstream slowly. Along with an increased fiber intake should be an increase in water.  It is true that our bodies are made up of 75% water.  This goes to show that we should constantly be refilling our bodies with water.  It is recommended that we drink around 6-8 glasses of water per day.  Water rids the body of toxins, clears our skin, and hydrates our organs!

I know most people don’t like to hear this, but exercise will get the mind and body on track to a successful healthy lifestyle.  Most people don’t know this about exercise, but your body continues to burn off calories even after you have finished your workout.  Even a brisk walk outside for 15 to 20 minutes is a great opportunity to get in an exercise for the day.  Exercising will help increase your metabolism, which in turn increases the calories your burn. Besides the benefit of losing weight, you keep your heart healthy when you exercise.

Most people don’t want to hear the healthy choice, but it’s the healthy choice that will help their bodies when they get older. Decreasing portion size, increasing fiber intake and water, and finally, exercising are all tips that will help your body stay healthy. But, your heart has to agree with your mind for you to see results.  Good luck!
